Listen to the Podcast: As we approach Veterans Day on November 11, we are especially proud to share that the Harold Bray Monument, also known as the Harold Bray Tribute and USS Indianapolis Veterans Memorial, is nearing a major milestone! The U.S. Navy is now officially reviewing the language on the bronze historical plaques, marking one of the final steps in completing this important tribute. Harold Bray, a veteran and hometown hero, is the last living survivor of the WWII USS Indianapolis. This monument not only honors his legacy but also serves as a lasting tribute to all first responders, armed forces personnel, and veterans who have served our country, especially as we honor their sacrifices this Veterans Day. The draft mockup of the bronze plaques has been available for viewing over the last several months at the corner of East Military and First Street. Now, we need the community’s help to ensure the names of all donors are correct on those temporary plaque mockups. This is the last call for anyone who wishes to make changes to how their name appears on the donation plaques. This is also the last call for additional donations to add your name to the monument. While legacy bricks are no longer available, you can still donate to secure your name or your organization’s name on the bronze legacy plaques. Donation levels and details are available at www.beniciacf.org/harold-bray-monument.html. For more information, contact the Benicia Community Foundation at (707) 803-2500 or email [email protected]. On this Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in this meaningful project dedicated to honoring Harold Bray, the veterans of the USS Indianapolis, and all who have served in our armed forces. Today, we remember the sacrifices made to preserve our freedoms and way of life, celebrating their legacy of courage and service that continues to inspire us all. Sincerely, Benicia Community Foundation
